About: Pregnancy/Postpartum Depression and Anxiety Support Group. The postpartum period (1st year after the birth of a new baby).

A startling 80% of new mothers experience the “baby blues” characterized by fluctuating moods and crying episodes resolving within 2 weeks. A reported 20% will experience a more profound depression and anxiety which may interfere with daily functioning. Peer support has been shown to reduce anxiety and depression by creating a non-judgmental, confidential atmosphere for women to share their common questions, concerns and difficulties. My “peer” support groups modeled after the Postpartum Resource Center’s “Circle of Light” provides answers and guidance to mood disorders occurring during and after pregnancy. You are not alone! You are not to blame! You will be well, we’ll help! PSI Universal message.

About the Facilitator Vanessa Barisano: Vanessa's passion in caring and educating new moms started over 25 years ago as an Ob nurse well versed in Labor & Delivery, Newborn Nursery & Postpartum. For the past 17 years, she has dedicated herself to educating and supporting moms through their pregnancy, breastfeeding and postpartum experiences as a Childbirth, Perinatal & Postnatal Educator. She is further enhancing her dedication to moms & babies by obtaining her Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner degree to specifically treat Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders. An estimated 10-15% of moms suffer during pregnancy; ~20% during postpartum. We are pleased and excited to offer a peer/educational support group for pregnant and postpartum moms. Whether it's your 1st or 4th baby, being a mom is the hardest job there is! Come learn anxiety and time management techniques, tips for sleep deprivation and so much more! Maybe you just need a little TLC or a sense of community among other moms to share in a non-judgmental atmosphere; your Pediatrician's office!
